New mobile port crane moves on ponton over Albertkanaal

New crane on the move

New mobile port crane moved by waterway to new location

On June 16, Gosselin Logistics will move the new crane by waterway to its new location at the container terminal. To achieve this major move, Gosselin is partnering with VICTROL – Heavy and RORO Pontoons that will supply the pontoon to transport both cranes down the Albert Canal. Gosselin expects this undertaking to make the switch with the old crane will take a full day, so efforts will start early in the morning.

The steel giant was delivered in several parts on May 3 by transport over inland waterways, and Gosselin Logistics has worked non-stop ever since with specialists from Konecranes Germany and Sarens to assemble the new crane. After a few days of intensive tests that involved lifting containers and other heavy items, the crane was approved for operation.

The new Konecranes Gottwald Model 5 crane has a 51-meter radius and will be used primarily for containers and breakbulk cargo. The crane has a maximum capacity of 125 tons, making it suitable for heavy lifting requirements. The purchase of this crane is a direct response to the widening of the Albert Canal and the expansion of the Gosselin quay. “We invest in inland shipping and multimodal solutions to alleviate the pressure on local and other roads, and to offer reassurance to our customers. After all, the number of containers being processed keeps rising,” says Marc Smet, CEO of Gosselin Group.

Opwaardering Albertkanaal

Wood storage

Gosselin Logistics offers quick storage solution

Antwerp Cargo Movers, recently acquired by Gosselin, needed an urgent solution to store 900 cubic meters of wood for their customer. Gosselin and Pasec Port came to their aid, resulting in an efficient collaboration between all three companies.
