The Limburg–Antwerp Express: Port of Limburg and Gosselin join forces on the Albert Canal
Port of Limburg and logistics service provider Gosselin announce a strategic partnership for container transport between Limburg and the port of Antwerp. By combining their container volumes and sailing together on the Albert Canal, both partners will increase efficiency, shorten transit times, and strengthen Limburg's connectivity with the most important deep-sea terminals.

Port of Limburg, the container terminal on the former Ford site in Genk, has been operational since March 2025 and has quickly built up a network of frequent and reliable connections to the most important seaports. A partnership with Barge Terminal Born was recently announced for regular and frequent sailings to Rotterdam. The new partnership with Gosselin will now also give the connection with Antwerp a significant boost.
Gosselin, headquartered in Deurne, has been operational since 1930 and currently has three water-bound terminals and one rail terminal (LAR), from Wielsbeke via the Port of Antwerp and Deurne to Genk-Zuid. As a logistics, asset-based, one-stop service provider, Gosselin has for years focused explicitly on an integrated multi/intermodal supply chain with its own in-house services.
Collaborations such as the one with Port of Limburg are therefore a confirmation of their ambition to promote water-bound transport as a sustainable and future-oriented solution, using freight transport primarily for the ‘last mile’.
More efficient shipping through bundled volumes
Within the partnership, the container flows of Port of Limburg and Gosselin are brought together and centrally planned by Contargo Transbox. This integrated planning model provides an optimal overview of volumes and deadlines, resulting in more efficient shipping schedules, fewer stopovers, and larger call sizes per terminal.
“It is crucial to work with a partner who has a complete overview of all volumes and can plan them from a single central location,” they say. “This allows us to achieve maximum efficiency and offer our customers even more reliable services.”
The larger volumes per call also enable more direct point-to-point connections. This not only shortens the lead time, but also increases operational efficiency at the Antwerp terminals themselves, which have been advocating for larger call sizes for some time. In exchange, additional fixed handling windows have now been negotiated at several terminals in Antwerp.
A logical step after years of dialogue
Port of Limburg and Gosselin have been in talks about a possible collaboration for some time. These talks gained momentum after the opening of an additional Belgian branch of Gosselin along the Albert Canal in Genk-Zuid in the summer of 2025, a short distance from Port of Limburg.
“A successful collaboration starts with listening to each other, open dialogue, and mutual respect for each other's interests,” says Benjamin Hermans, CEO of Port of Limburg. “Combined with a healthy dose of entrepreneurship, this leads to strong partnerships such as this one. We are extremely satisfied and convinced that this collaboration will create sustainable added value for all parties involved.”
