Gosselin Logistics to take 700 containers off the road each year

After a visit to the Gosselin Logistics container terminal, sauce producer Manna Foods decided to start shipping its container freight to the Deurganck Dock via lighter connections. This successful partnership between Multimodaal.Vlaanderen, Gosselin Logistics and Remant Africa Logistics has generated a 70% reduction in CO2 for Manna Foods.

Manna Foods, a producer of a range of sauces, will start shipping via inland navigation. In the past, the empty containers were picked up at the Port of Antwerp, loaded in Wijnegem and transported back to the Deurganck Dock on the left bank: a total distance of 65 kilometers. Given the increasing problems with mobility in and around Antwerp, the company wanted to get its trucks off the road and try a new solution.
Multimodaal.Vlaanderen discussed the inland navigation options with Manna Foods. A visit to Gosselin Logistics’ container terminal in Deurne was set up to explain the practical aspects of the facility. After this, it was up to Manna Foods and Gosselin Logistics to draw up a commercial contract. Remant Africa Logistics is also playing an active role in setting up the new transport chain.

Manna Foods will be conducting a few test hauls using the lighter connection from the container terminal to the Deurganck Dock for the export of 20’ containers of mayonnaise to African destinations. The sauces will be manually loaded, in a variety of types of packaging, into 20’ containers in Wijnegem. This favorable loading location limits the distance the pre-transport has to cover by road to the container terminal.
By using the lighter combined with a short pre-transport period, the company can cut its CO2 emissions by 70% This will mean a substantial green contribution when you consider the estimated annual potential of some 700 to 800 containers.

“We are 100% ready,” according to Filip van Gorp, logistics manager at Gosselin Logistics. “We would like to encourage even more companies to take advantage of our terminal’s unique strategic location.”

Opwaardering Albertkanaal

Wood storage

Gosselin Logistics offers quick storage solution

Antwerp Cargo Movers, recently acquired by Gosselin, needed an urgent solution to store 900 cubic meters of wood for their customer. Gosselin and Pasec Port came to their aid, resulting in an efficient collaboration between all three companies.
