Exceptional transport weighing 92 tons

We organized the safe exceptional transport, coordination, handling, and loading of two giant diesel engines onto a heavy-lift vessel travelling from Ghent to Antwerp. After more than one year of preparations and thanks to its expertise in road surveys, permits, breakbulk logistics and port handling, we were able to provide a tailor-made solution.

The principal in this project was ABC, a company known for the production of large diesel and other engines. And by large, we mean large. The two engines exceeded a unit weight of 92 tons and the total transport combination was 36 meters long and five meters high.

“We packed the engines with water-repellant canvasses to protect the sensitive equipment during their road transport,” Joris Leonaers, manager of Industrial Projects, explains. “Each transport took six to seven hours and was expertly handled thanks to a collaborative effort between Gosselin Logistics, Heavy, and Pilots and Permits.”

Both engines were then loaded into a customized crate. After ensuring the cargo was packed to make it seaworthy, the units were successfully loaded on board the heavy-lift vessel, destination: Bangladesh. Meticulous preparation for this project was key, but it all was handled smoothly thanks to the expertise of our own departments and our various partners.
